My 86 Days In Office As Ag. Gov Full Of Good Memories, No Regrets, Says Fintiri

The former acting Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has described his short stay in office as full of good memories without any regrets whatsoever.

Mr. Finitiri spent 86 days as transitional governor following the impeachment of Murtala Nyako. A by-election slated for September 25 and which Fintiri was set to run as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, was cancelled following the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which ordered the acting governor to vacate the seat and Mr. Nyako’s deputy, James Bala Ngilari, immediately sworn in as substantive governor since his purported resignation did not follow constitutionally laid down procedure.

Reflecting on his days as acting chief executive of the state, Fintiri said: “My 86 days in the Dougeri Government House was full of good memories and never ever forgettable… I consider those days as fulfilled days of great achievement. As the record shows that within those few days, I touched my people’s lives in significant ways. I wish anyone that is there to put his best to see that our state is better than I met it”.

Mr. Fintiri, who reverted back to his position as Speaker of the state House of Assembly, spoke to journalists after his visit to the Adamawa State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, secretariat with some of his colleagues.

The lawmakers were at the secretariat to pledge their loyalty to the Joel Madaki-led state executive committee of the party.

Mr. Madaki was removed as chairman by the national chapter of the party.

“Initially we were invited by the party hierarchy, especially those that want to contest and re-contest”, Mr. Fintiri said. “I felt as a loyal party man to show solidarity with my colleagues that are going to contest. As a group and as a people, we want to see how we will move our party forward”.

When asked to comment on the authenticity of Mr. Madaki as the chairman of the state chapter of the party, Fintiri said it was not something to lose sleep about.

“We are still pleading with the party’s hierarchy to reinstate Chief Joel Madaki”, he said, adding that “As a state, we have to move forward. The person that is there is one of us and was deputizing Mr. Madaki”.

The speaker also used the opportunity to deny the speculation that he is set to contest the governorship election of the state come 2015.

“I am cool and happy” he said. “I am out to help my party achieve success in 2015, particularly my member colleagues who are out to get voted in 2015. For 2015, I can tell you now I don’t have any ambition”.
