Tennis: Nadal Successfully Removes His Appendix in Spain

Rafael Nadal’s has today undergone his appendix surgery at a hospital in Spain.

The world No. 3 pulled out of the final two tournaments of 2014 to have take out his appendix ahead of the 2015 season.

Nadal’s spokesman says the operation took place Monday at the TEKNON Medical Center by Dr. Segura Movellan and his team.

Before having his procedure- a laparoscopic appendectomy- the 14-time Grand Slam champion posted a message on his Facebook wall to his 15 million fans.

Nadal’s message read in English: “Thanks for your support! On my way to the operation room for a small surgery.”

The 28-year-old will spend between 24-48 hours in hospital following what has been described as a successful operation.

The 2015 campaign begins in two months, with Nadal aiming to return at the Qatar Open in Doha on 5 January to defend the title he won this year. The first Grand Slam of the coming year, the Australian Open, is only 77 days away.

The world No. 3, who played through appendicitis for much of October, will miss next week’s ATP World Tour Finals in London because of the surgery.
